National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT)
The NCCT NCPT is widely recognized across Texas, Florida, California, and many other large-employer states. Eligibility routes include formal training, military experience (USAF BMTCP, Army 68W, Navy Hospital Corpsman with documented phlebotomy rotations), work experience plus a supervisor attestation, or current enrollment in an approved program. The 125-question exam covers routine and special venipuncture, capillary puncture, point-of-care testing, safety, anatomy, and specimen handling. The five-year validity window and the option to recertify by CE alone (no retest) make it a frequent choice for working phlebotomists who want low administrative overhead.
Who is this credential for?
Military-trained phlebotomists transitioning to civilian healthcare, graduates of NCCT-approved career schools, and direct-work-experience candidates who want the longest renewal cycle available.
Renewal requirements
14 continuing-education contact hours in phlebotomy-related topics OR retake the NCPT exam; the 5-year window is the longest in the U.S. phlebotomy industry.
