Certified Phlebotomist (CP)
The ACA Certified Phlebotomist (CP) credential has been in continuous issuance for over 30 years and remains a recognized path for phlebotomists seeking a non-ASCP, non-NHA, non-AMT credential that is accepted by a long list of smaller employers and several state licensure bodies. The 100-question exam covers venipuncture, capillary puncture, special collections, anatomy, safety, and quality assurance. ACA also offers stackable credentials - EKG Technician, Patient Care Technician, and Medical Assistant - that allow multi-skilled candidates to grow without re-taking redundant coursework.
Who is this credential for?
Phlebotomists who need a credential recognized for state-licensure reciprocity in California, Nevada, Louisiana, or Washington, and for those working in smaller clinics or independent blood-bank settings that specifically request ACA paperwork.
Renewal requirements
10 continuing-education hours every 2 years plus the recertification fee; renewal reminders are mailed 90 and 30 days before the credential expiry date.
